PROPHET Tower and Lab Facility

The site is located about 800 feet from Bryant Road in a forested area. The Tower lab building is a 20 x 30 x 10 insulated and supplied with heat and air conditioning (two 7.5 ton units). It has telephone and data line service and 3-phase power. The building is furnished with shelving, lab benches and a few computer desks. Power and cable trays run east to west along soffets on the ceiling below multiple 15 and 20 amp outlets. The facility includes a small pump room. Water is available at the site. The lab is secured by an eight foot cyclone fence. The enclosed forest area is approximately 9,000 square feet. The storage area for the site is located at the gate near the road. It is also fenced with eight foot cyclone fencing. Both areas are secured by padlocked gates. Scientists are expected to park at the parking lot near the road to avoid releasing any emissions near the site. Large pieces of equipment may be delivered to the site by vehicles, if necessary, during periods when measurements are not being conducted -- with permission from the Program Director.

The tower sits about one foot west of the laboratory building. It is a guyed stairway-type tower manufactured by Upright, Inc. It is comprised of 16 aluminum tower sections; each section is 54 inches wide (on the north and south sides of the tower), 72 inches long (on the east and west sides) and 72 inches high with the exception of the section found at 94 feet which extends an additional two feet to the east and the top section (at 103 feet 5 inches) which extends an additional two feet to the west as well as two feet to the east. The top platform of the tower is at 103 feet 5 inches. Currently a glass manifold sheltered by a standard ham radio tower is attached to the north side. The manifold reaches 115 feet. An anemometer is positioned at 119.5 feet on the north side as well (see diagram of top of the tower August 1997 - not to scale). The tower sits on a 20 x 10 foot cement pad. There is a davit mounted on the north west corner of the tower, which can be used to raise or lower equipment being mounted or removed. It will handle up to 500 lbs.
